Balanced
Definition:
To understand the importance of balancing different aspects of our lives—intellectual, physical, and emotional—to achieve well-being for ourselves and others. And recognize our interdependence with other people and with the world in which we live.
Personal Connection:
In my life I have learned to balance personal and academic aspects of life. For me these aspects include: free time for myself so I can distress, homework, college research, chores at home, looking for scholarships, and community service (volunteering). In order to have time to fit all these things in my schedule, I have learned the importance of managing my time and allotting time to complete certain tasks so I can get the most out of my time. However being able to be balanced has also shown me the importance of taking breaks so that I can give each task the most of my attention and put my best work out. Sometimes time management is not my strongest skill but I am able to learn from my mistakes and create tools for myself to be more efficient and make sure I remember all the tasks I need to do. For example, I like using a timer to set a certain amount of time to work on one thing and then allow myself enough time to then work on something else, thus allowing me to maximize my time.
High School Connection
To remain balanced it is essential that I use my time wisely while in school. This means being able to use class time to complete/work on something so that I have less to do when I go home. Additionally the ability to be balanced is useful while in high school, because it lets me be balanced and diverse in my coursework and in my studying routine. This means that I am able to study for a variety of classes rather than just one, resulting in having a more general grasp on the content covered in all my classes, which could then help me do well on tests. Finally being balanced and organized in high school has helped me to complete long term projects like, the Reflective Project, on time because I was able to manage and monitor my progress to ensure that I was able to finish it within the project deadline. To do this I set deadlines and goals for myself on when I should get certain parts of the project done by.
