Personal Connection:
My high school is a very culturally diverse environment. As a result I am exposed to new customs and ways of life and different languages. In order to communicate with my peers that speak more than one language I decided to choose Spanish as my target language to study while in high school. By learning words and phrases in Spanish, it has really allowed me to feel a connection to others and opened up my ability to communicate with them. Although, my Spanish skills are not advanced enough for me to completely understand and talk to a native speaker for a long period of time, I am still able to have short conversations with my friends that are native Spanish speakers. In turn, they help me with my grammar and pronunciation so that I can communicate more effectively and further develop my Spanish speaking skills. Additionally, I decided to pick Spanish as opposed to French as the language I wanted to study because I thought that Spanish would help me to communicate more any future career that I choose.
High School Connection:
Being a communicator is an important trait to have while in high school because it allows me to get good grades in my Spanish class and to do well academically. Also, being a communicator helps me meet all the requirements for being able to graduate with an IB CP certificate. This is because one of the requirements finding 50 words relevant to my chosen career path (medical) for a Spanish-English dictionary which includes synonyms and anytonyms for all the words and a context sentence, all in Spanish and English. Therefore being a communicator has helped me to be able to find these words and include them in my dictionary.
