            Thinker

The definition of being an IB Thinker, includes applying thinking skills critically and creatively to problem solve ethically and effectively. The trait of being a thinker is essential for my high school life. However I especially used my thinking skills when I wrote my IBCP Reflective Project. While doing this project I was required to think of a solution to my chosen ethical dilemma (the use of Genetically Modified Organisms in agriculture), thus allowing me to think critically to solve an ethical dilemma in today's society in the best way possible for all the people involved. Furthermore, doing the Reflective Project allowed me to think of the issue of GMO usage from different perspectives. Also I used extensive research skills when finding studies and sources that came from reliable databases to use in my project.

Being a thinker has helped me to become more involved in my high school experience academically. I learned to do  research and how to identify the reliability of a certain source. Also being a thinker has allowed me to participate in my classes during discussions so that I am able communicate effectively and critically with my peers to get a better understanding of the topic being discussed. In many of my classes we participate in Socratic Seminars, by being a thinker I am able to adjust my thinking in order to follow the flow of the conversation so that I can best relate to what is being said. Additionally throughout my time in High School I have taken care that I understand the content being taught. I do this by asking for help, watching YouTube videos of an explanation of the content that I find confusing, and sometimes staying after school to get extra help from my teachers. This shows that I am able to use my thinking skills to problem solve when I don't understand something.
